Do you know?

Our friend JP, wanting avoid playing the victim card, asks this question:

Do you know what it is like to be afraid? Every day? Do you know what it is like to have to think what you say, how you appear, where you move, at what time, whom you speak to? Do you know what it is like to have to prove yourself 100% at 100% of the time?

You have GOT to be kidding me. Does this woman really want to go this route and play the ‘my suffering is worse than your suffering’ card? She cannot really believe that it is harder for a white woman in this society than a black man.

So, it’s bad to play the race card, but okay to play the gender card? It’s ignorant to claim that (white) women might have it better than black men in many ways?

To paraphrase from HER comment, is SHE a black man? Does SHE know what its like to be followed in stores for no reason, to be pulled over for no reason, to have a significant percentage of your population in prison, to be trapped in  a cycle of violence and poverty because of underlying institutional racism?

GET OVER YOURSELF, JP.

Sorry for being harsh, but this is such a double standard.

  1. Alex Says:

Exactly. Hillary’s only got away with it because she’s probably calculated that women are half the voting population, so any down side to playing the gender card are more than made up for it by the female sympathy vote.

Obama can’t play the race card because the anti-black vote is huge in comparison to the black vote.

It’s just a numbers game — the same numbers game that sunk Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton (although, Sharpton had plenty of other problems…)
